I was at the SM Megamall last week and saw a section at the mall where people, all of them male, seated on rows of benches. I then realized that there was an ongoing motorcycle helmet validation going on when I saw helmets on display. I wonder if there are shoei helmets for sale at that time.
What is the motorcycle helmet validation all about? This is basically in response to Republic Act No. 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act, where those not wearing standard protective helmets will be fined P1,500 for the first offense; P3,000 for the second offense; P5,000 for the third offense; and P10,000 as well as confiscation of license for the fourth and succeeding offenses. Having a DTI-certified motorcycle helmet basically ensures that you’re wearing a quality product.
Motorcycle riders should secure import commodity clearance (ICC) stickers for their helmets ahead of December 31, as the DTI will not extend the deadline for helmet inspection and ICC marking. Locally-made helmet should bear a PS sticker. I read somewhere that turnout has been low. There’s still time to catch up. Here’s the remaining schedule I found on DTI’s website:
- December 15
SM Supermalls (SM North, SM Megamall, SM Manila, SM Mall of Asia)
Marikina City Hall - December 16
Brgy. Bagbag, Quezon City
Brgy. San Agustin, Quezon City
Singalong, Manila
- December 18
San Pablo City Shopping Mall, San Pablo, Laguna - December 19
SM Masinag, Antipolo City
