As of this writing, the 2014 LBC-Ronda Pilipinas International Edition is ongoing. Our very own 7 cycling team is battling it out against 7 international teams for a 14-day 1,700-kilometer race across Luzon which started February 1st at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
The local teams are from the Team Philippine Army, PLDT-Maynilad Pro Cycling Team, Team Philippine Navy Standard Insurance, Team Cycleline Butuan Mindanao, 7-Eleven Continental Cycling Team, Team Roadbike Philippines and Team Cebu - Kalit Philippine Airforce.
Japan’s Matrix Powertag Continental Team, Netherlands’ Dutch Global Cycling Team, Taiwan’s Gusto Continental Team, Malaysia National Team, South Korea’s UiJeongBu City Cycling Team are participating in the 2014 LBC-Ronda Pilipinas International Edition. The rest of the teams with members coming from mixed nationality are also participating — Brunei-based CNN Continental Cycling Team and Thailand-based Infinite-Singha Cycling Team.
The teams gathered together during a presscon held in Quezon City last Friday, January 31st. This is the first-ever international edition of LBC-Ronda Pilipinas which has been an annual event for 4 years now. The sporting event is a brainchild of LBC President Dino Araneta who believed in the potential of Filipino cyclist in dominating international competitions. Filipinos’ lighter physique is apparently an advantage on cycling when compared to against bigger and heavier cyclist from other nationality.
The LBC-Ronda Pilipinas annual cycling event is fitting for an organization like LBC. It’s an opportunity to showcase, not just their package delivery service, but more so, their expertise on logistics. Organizing Ronda Pilipinas is not an easy thing to accomplish because of the planning, organizing and coordinating that needs to be done. The 2014 cycling event is proof of their knowledge and experience.
The 2nd leg of the race today is from Muntinlupa to Cavite. Yesterday, it was announced that New Zealand cyclist Jason Christie of the CNN Continental Cycling Team won the fist leg. Updates on the race can be accessed from Ronda Pilipinas Facebook Page.
The 2014 LBC-Ronda Pilipinas International Edition is supported by MVP Sports, PLDT and Mitsubish as major sponsors. Maynilad, Versa 2 Radio, NLEX, Standard Insurance, Canondale, Air Asia is also the event’s minor sponsor. Media partners are TV5 and DZSR Sports Radio 918.
