I’d say this is a welcome development at a time when Filipinos are enjoying overseas travel. This also provides more options on the available financial products and services to meet the ever-changing need of consumers in the digital economy.

Currently, there’s an almost limitless array of payment services available in the market. However, these cashless options differ in specific uses, and not all have the benefit of being backed by established global companies that have a proven track record in card services and support. Although for me, to be honest, as long as my needs are met by a certain product, I’ll definitely keep it.

But of course, I’m always checking out what’s new out there that will complement my lifestyle. As of this writing, I am subscribed to 6 financial services that allows me to access and manage my funds, 4 of these has debit/prepaid card option. I’m honestly looking at OmniPay Diners Club Forex Prepaid Card.

It is a partnership between OmniPay and Diners Club International Ltd. OmniPay is one of Asia’s leading providers of breakthrough card programs and payment services. Diners Club International Ltd., a payment services company owned by Discover Financial Services, and part of the Discover Global Network. I’m not very familiar with OmniPay, but Diners Club definitely has a strong brand recall being aware that it’s an international credit card issuer.

The OmniPay Diners Club Forex Prepaid Card is the solution for businesses who are looking to integrate travel-related benefits for their customers. It is a USD-based prepaid card with the capability of acting like a loyalty and rewards card, and is internationally accepted due to the Discover Global Network, which includes Discover Network, Diners Club International, PULSE and affiliated networks.

It also comes with a mobile app, which allows the cardholder to gain access to payment functionalities such as real-time card-to-card transfer, QR Payments, balance inquiry and transaction history. The mobile app also allows locating ATMs in the vicinity, getting up-to-the-minute currency exchange rates, and even ascertaining local tipping etiquette across different countries.

Basically, as a cardholder, you can transfer money to your OmniPay Diners Club Forex Prepaid Card. It holds a separate balance for US Dollars and Philippine Peso and can be funded with either currency. If you think that the Forex Rate is favorable, you can convert your Pesos to USD and can then be used when you travel abroad.

“Diners Club knows the importance of cardholders being able to use their card of choice when traveling abroad,” said Annie Zhang, Regional Managing Director APAC of International Markets at Discover. “Tourists from the Philippines often travel to the United States and Canada, places where we can offer wide acceptance of their OmniPay Diners Club Forex Prepaid Card.”

Cardholders will also be entitled to Diners Club’s latest destination offers via the Privilege platform. As expected, many of these privileges extend to other major locations across the world, covering a wide variety of dining, travel, and entertainment pursuits. This is an exciting one that I’d like to experience.
