Stripped and Liberated by Strip: Ministry of Waxing’s Boyzilian

Strip: Ministry of Waxing

There’s a sense of liberation when I take my clothes off, especially during these hot summer season. Unfortunately, i can’t go running around naked or simply strip off wherever I am just so I could feel the sense of freedom that I enjoy. Doing that would be scandalous; plus I don’t have the courage to flaunt my fatness, making it more scandalous. Ugh! Good thing there’s Strip: Ministry of Waxing where I experienced the liberty I wanted wherever I go.

Strip: Ministry of Waxing is a salon offering waxing services. Just the name tells me waxing is the only thing they do, which means they are experts on this field. Founded in Singapore, the company has been in the business since 2002. It flourished and now has branches in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, London, New York, Shanghai and of course, Manila!

Waxing conjures images of plasters, pain and people screaming. Strip: Ministry of Waxing founder Cythia Chua seemed to have experienced them all that she set out to figure a way for safe, hygienic and painless waxing by conducting trials, testing new techniques and experimenting with new waxes. The result was a brand new set of Brazilian waxing techniques that was less painful. This also made waxing less embarrassing, not just because the person having the procedure won’t shout out of pain, but more so on how one walks around after the service. I’m sure you could imagine.

The City Roamer - Strip Ministry of Waxing at Serendra in front of Market MarketNow what am I doing at a waxing salon, you might ask. I came here to be waxed, of course. I was at the Strip Serendra branch to try their Boyzilian along with other male bloggers. I have a confession to make — I shave my nether region. It started out as a curiosity which ended up to be a semi-regular thing because I liked it, and my girl liked it too. It’s clean, comfortable and showed off my potential. I have to admit though that shaving is very tedious and scary at the same time. I’m unable to regularly do it so I would just trim at times. When I saw the opportunity to try the service, I immediately gave it a go, but not without any apprehensions.

The City Roamer - Strip Ministry of Waxing- No Double Dipping

I have several concerns in having the Boyzilian service. First, I’m a keloid former and I’m afraid that the procedure might cause some bruises that could lead to infection and end up becoming a keloid. That’s not a beautiful sight down there. Second, the pain. I have a high threshold on pain but they’ll be touching and ripping off hair on sensitive areas. I don’t want to be walking around like I just had my circumcision. The salon executives spent time explaining things to us, and that settled my fears away. They explained further that they only use the spatula once, no double dipping — that means the spatula touches the body once and that’s disposed after use; a fresh spatula would be used to touch the body. That’s very hygienic.

Of course, the actual procedure is where it all matters. As I entered the room, I noticed the sense of privacy; the only place where a curtain drapes on is the door. There’s a locker big enough to hold my stuff — bag, clothes, shoes, etc. I could go buying a lot of stuff and should I decide to have my wax, I can put all the shopping bags in and it will still fit. Then there’s the bed with towels spread across; that’s comfortable to a naked body. On top of the bed is another towel used to cover me up, a wet wipe which I used to clean myself up before we start and the stress carrot for me to hold on to should I feel the pain, get nervous or what-have-you.

I was asked to only took my pants and undies off. That was a relief since I don’t want the therapist seeing my bulging tummy while working on my precious. At first it was a bit uncomfortable seeing that a lady, a stranger at that, is looking at me down under. Professional that she is, the lady tried to make me comfortable by starting out a conversation. Then she started inspecting my stuff, analyzing the work that needs to be done, all with her latex gloves on. As she started the procedure, warm chocolate-flavored wax touched my skin and started stripping off the bushes. She would show me the strips from time to time, where I see proof that the hairs were plucked from the very roots. That means it won’t grow fast.

The waxing went on with very little pain I should say. The therapist would warn me when she’s about to strip the bushes from sensitive parts; that would make me tightly hold on to the stress carrots in anticipation, to no avail because there was nothing really. In no time, she was asking me get up and put my clothes on; that’s with my front and back clean and smooth like a baby. ;) The Boyzilian wax only took about 30 minutes on me; I guess it helped that I was able to trim before the procedure. I was told that it could take longer depending on the amount of hair that needs to be stripped off.

My Boyzilian with Strip: Ministry of Waxing is a total opposite from what I feared it to be. That freed me from my preconceived notion that this procedure is painful. It’s not, and on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, I would rate it at 2 or 3. I walked out of the room pretty normal, but my companions said I was beaming. Indeed I was, because the experience was really good. It was a good thing I had the service on one really warm day with several appointments I had to make, from The Fort, to QC, Pasig and back to QC. It felt very comfortable down under even if I’m sweating all over.

I have different reasons for stripping off the bushes down there, but the primary one is hygiene. We live in a tropical country and we all get sweaty, especially during these days. Sweat on hidden areas of the body accumulates bacteria that causes foul odor. Also, unlike women, we don’t carry tissues or wet wipes around, so we can’t wipe ourselves dry after we pee, letting the drips stay in our undies which also attracts bacteria. Admit it, we can shake it off as hard as we can, but drips still happens. At one point I tried carrying tissue paper and wiped myself after peeing, but the effort only lasted several weeks. And even during those times when I carry them with me, I would forget or totally skip it because I’m in a hurry to get out of the toilet.

The City Roamer - Strip Ministry of Waxing- Boyzilian

Strip: Ministry of Waxing‘s Boyzilian is highly recommended. It’s safe, hygienic, painless and perfect. Plus, of course, it let’s you upsize without going through the knife. A few days after having the procedure and I’m still enjoying my bald self. It’s a different experience than just simply shaving them on my own where I am unable to totally strip everything off. Plus I experience itchiness when hair starts to grow. Boy, do they grow quick! Experiencing the service liberated me — it freed me from the mindset that this procedure is only for girls. I learned that a growing number of men, not just gays, are having it, like the Azkals, the Volcanoes and even the DJs from the Boys Night Out of Magic 89.9. The experience made me realize that waxing, in this case Boyzilian — Brazilian waxing for men — is not painful at all.

Incidentally, we learned that the company actually owns the term “Boyzilian”, hence, no other company or salon should use it. That goes to show how serious this waxing salon is when it comes to stripping hair. I will surely be going back to Strip Serendra, or maybe I should check out their other branch at Greenbelt 5.
