I felt I was on top of the world when I was at Mount Cabuyao in Benguet. While we were in Baguio City, we took ride to the top of the mountain where the radars and telco cellsites were installed. It was a steep climb. We’re just lucky we were on a van courtesy of Azalea Residences and that the roads to the mountaintop is already paved with concrete.
On our way up, we passed by some tourists climbing Mount Cabuyao on foot. Had we done that, I’m sure we would have missed our other activities in Baguio that day, including the SLU Lantern Parade and Christmas lighting. We took a short walk to get to the viewing deck. Overlooking the city of Baguio and other mountain peaks, with the cold gust of wind, it was an awesome experience.
We took another ride to reach the second peak of Mount Cabuyao. Our guide shared that on a clear day, we can see the province of Pangasinan. The sun is shining bright that morning but the fog has already thicken that there’s no longer visibility when looking down from the mountain. But it felt more exhilarating to see the fog rising, looking like a cloud.
We also visited the water reservoir located at Mount Cabuyao. I learned that this is the primary water source of the entire Baguio City. The body of water and the surrounding area is equally beautiful.
Climb Mount Cabuyao anytime you’re in Baguio City. It’s the closest thing to being on top of the world.
The most accessible place to visit when roaming Vigan City in Ilocos Sur is Calle Crisologo. Also known as Mena Crisologo Street located at the heart of Vigan’s commercial hub, it is part of Vigan Heritage Village. The moment I set my foot, I felt the gratitude that I am able to walk along the street made of cobblestones and see for myself the ancestral houses built during the Spanish Era. This is one of the five places in the Philippines under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It’s a heritage for all mankind to personally experience.
For me, Calle Crisologo becomes a magical place during night time and we roamed the area just at the right time. We walked along the street and behold the beauty of the old Spanish ancestral houses famous with its architectural details such as the bricked walls, huge doors, arched entrances, sliding windows made of capiz shells. One can imagine the seasons of times that these houses had to go through as aging is clearly evident on most of the houses.
Some were converted to restaurants, souvenir shops and hostels, making the entire stretch of Calle Crisologo a booming commercial district. That’s in keeping with the street’s early beginnings during the Spanish and early American period. I was able to leisurely walk along and enjoy the scenes and take photos because the entire Vigan Heritage Village is closed to vehicular traffic. Only the calesas or horse-drawn carriages ply the street that can take you around town. Seeing one is like being transported back in time when calesa was the primary mode of transportation.
Calle Crisologo is one of the best kept heritage for all mankind. One of the bloggers shared that the place is cleaner now compared to his previous trip from years back. He noted that although souvenir shops are still plenty in the area, the street and the entire village is far better than before. Kudos to the local government for taking care of the Vigan Heritage Village and the entire city of Vigan for that matter.
Upcoming TV series Scorpion is another must-watch show. I had the chance to watch the first episode during a premiere and I can already tell that I will be taking note of the time just so I won’t miss every broadcast of this American drama series. It has all the elements that I wanted – interesting storyline, technology and suspense. What’s not to love? It will definitely be part of my TV viewing habit.
Inspired by a true story, Scorpion is all about a genius and his “gang” of geeks who were recruited by the Federal government to solve threats that endanger national security. Starring Elyes Gabel as the genius Walter O’Brien, he is joined by Toby Curtis (Eddie Kaye Thomas), an expert behaviorist who can read anyone; Happy Quinn (Jadyn Wong), a mechanical prodigy; and Sylvester Dodd (Ari Stidham), a statistics guru. Completing the team is Paige Dineen (Katharine McPhee), who has a young, gifted son. The team can be considered misfits, loser even, as they all struggle in their work and life in general.
The cast may not be very familiar, but they have been part of other productions already. Elyes Gable is a British actor who recently played Rakharo, the Dothraki warrior on another TV series, “Game of Thrones.” He was also on “Casualty,” another series on BBC. Other performances included “The Borgias,” “Dead Set,” “Waterloo Road,” “Identity” and “Psychoville.” Meanwhile, Katharine McPhee competed in American Idol in 2006 and went on to have a career on acting on television. She did co-star in the feature “The House Bunny,” and also guested in other TV series such as “Ugly Betty,” “CSI: NY” and “Community,” and one of the leads in “Smash.”
Thomas is best known for his starring role in the “American Pie” franchise. He voices the character of Barry on the adult animated sitcom “American Dad!” He guest starred in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “The Twilight Zone,” “The X-Files” and “Law & Order.” He appeared in the “Harold & Kumar” film series.
Robert Patrick starred in the television series “The X-Files,” “True Blood” and “The Unit” and in the miniseries “Elvis.” He guest starred in “The Sopranos,” “Lost,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “NCIS,” “Psych,” “Community” and “Burn Notice.” Patrick is Federal agent Gabe Gallo who recruited the team to Homeland Security.
The pilot episode which we got to watch has that action film feel to it. It was directed by Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious”). Nick Santora, Emmy Award winner Nicholas Wootton, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Heather Kadin, Walter O’Brien, Scooter Braun and Justin Lin are the executive producers.
Judging from the first episode, TV series Scorpion will be a hit among those looking for action and excitement on their television programming. It will premiere on September 23, 9pm on RTL CBS Entertainment 24 hours after the US broadcast. For SkyCable subscribers, tune in to Channel 53 (SD) and 196 (HD); if you’re on Destiny Cable, click on channel 53. Tune to channel 224 if you’re on Cablelink and other provincial operators nationwide. I love online shopping as much as I do with online selling. Before online shopping boomed in the Philippines, I was already bidding and buying second hand gadgets. Then I became involved in online selling. The e-commerce landscape in the country continues to evolve, with some sites still existing while others folding up or getting bought by big businesses. Lately, Lamido is my latest discovery for online buying and selling.
Not another e-commerce website you might say. Lamido is not just another e-commerce platform. For starters, Rocket Internet is behind this venture, the same company behind Lazada and Zalora. What’s different though is that Lamido Philippines offers a wide range of products from budding entrepreneurs who is somehow overpowered by big companies with their branded products. This means more great deals to find.
When I first discovered the website and started browsing, I was actually overwhelmed with all the items available at really low price. I was so happy to find the items I’ve been saving up for at discounted price on Lamido. I realized that I can place an order and still have spare to shop for more items. Lamido is a bargain hunter’s haven. And there are several ways to pay for the items you’re buying – via bank transfer, cash-on-delivery or Lamido Safepay.
Lamido Safepay is quite unique as it provides the much needed security, especially for newbie online shoppers. That’s a very good feature as I have to admit being scammed once in my online transaction. In addition, this helps those who are concerned about fraud.
But let’s not stop at the buying part. As an online seller myself, I am already preparing to sell my stuff. I’m used to having my listings online so I’m no stranger to all the process. But what I love about Lamido’s site is that it’s professionally designed and the items are highlighted if you have it on sale or it’s a new listing. That feature draws the shoppers’ attention to your products. There’s a professional look and feel when selling at Lamido, unlike other platform which gives that bazaar-like or classified ads look.
Lamido is My Latest Discovery for Online Buying and Selling and I’m glad I gave this site a serious look. If you’re an online buyer or seller on the go, you don’t have to worry about missing out the latest deals or inquiries because you can also check the site on your smartphone. Yep, Lamido has an Android App that you can download from Google Play. Get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lamido.android&hl=en. What are you waiting for? Get the latest deals, and if you’re an online seller like me, start posting your listing at Lamido.
If you enjoyed Shrek, then you should catch Shrek The Musical in Manila. This musical play is based on DreamWorks’ animated film which was shown on Broadway and the West End. The main cast of the Manila production are Rycharde Everley (Shrek), Shiela Valderrama-Martinez (Princess Fiona), Nyoy Volante (Donkey) and Jett Pangan (Lord Farquaad). I had a chance to interview each of them during an intimate presscon which made me more excited to watch the musical.
Based in London, Rycharde Everley sent a video to audition for the role of Shrek. The actor is no stranger to the Philippine stage as he has done several plays with Atlantis Production. Meanwhile, Shiela Valderrama-Martinez is one of the Filipino performers in HongKong Disneyland and also performed opposite Leo Valdez for The King and I. Acoustic singer-songwriter Nyoy Volante, who was first a stage actor before being discovered for his music, shared that his character is the real him, funny, loud and “makulit.” Rock singer and also a thespian Jett Pangan shared how physically challenging his role is as Lord Farquaad.
Unanimously, the cast shared that they’re having fun working with each other during the rehearsal. I was surprised that it only took them about a month to rehearse for Shrek The Musical. Having been involved in musical plays myself, I know how grueling it can be. They’ll be dancing and singing, and that’s not easy to do. But their enthusiasm with the musical is enough indication that they’re ready for the show.
Directed by Bobby Garcia, Shrek The Musical will run from Sept 19 to Oct 11, every Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the Meralco Theatre. I’m looking forward to watch it. Don’t fail to catch the Manila production and spend an enjoyable evening with a green ogre, his princess, and the rest of the gang. Heads up 1D Fans, mark your calendars for September 29th. One Direction’s latest – the newest single ‘Steal My Girl’ will premiere and will be released globally on the said date. Pop band One Direction has announced ‘Steal My Girl’ as the first single from their eagerly anticipated new album ‘FOUR.’ Fans from the UK and Ireland will have to wait a little longer though as the single will be released in their area on 12th October.
1D’s latest single showcases the band’s songwriting ability while ensuring that their pop sound loved by millions are still evident. ‘Steal My Girl’ is written by Louis and Liam with Ed Drewett, Wayne Hector, Julian Bunetta and John Ryan. This is the same team who collaborated behind last year’s massive hit ‘Best Song Ever.’ Bunetta, Ryan and Paro Westerlund produced the song.
The much-awaited album ‘FOUR’ was announced earlier this month. Fans already had a taster of it with ‘Fireproof,’ which became the most downloaded free track ever in the 24 hours it was available. The album then debuted at the number one spot in the iTunes album charts in 65 countries in its first 24 hours of being made available for pre-order. The record was set, beating 1D’s third album ‘Midnight Memories’, which debuted at the top in 39 countries and went on to become the top selling album of 2013 worldwide.
From being a newbie in the pop genre, One Direction became international superstars in just four years and boasts a staggering 94 number ones and over 46 million records sold. As the band’s songwriting becomes more personal with each record, ‘FOUR’ is set to be their most stunning yet. The album follows the global success of their huge sell out ‘Where We Are’ stadium tour, which will be shown in cinemas globally for one weekend only on 11th and 12th October and released to DVD from 29th November (international release dates vary). Add all this to their 3 billion YouTube views, 110 million combined Twitter followers and 34 million Facebook fans and it’s clear that Liam, Harry, Louis, Niall and Zayn genuinely are a worldwide phenomenon.
‘FOUR’ will be released globally on November 17th 2014 and fans (excluding UK and Ireland) can receive ‘Steal My Girl’ instantly from September 29th if they pre-order the deluxe album on iTunes. Mark these dates 1D fans and be sure to connect with the band on social media, particularly Facebook and Twitter for more updates.
We’ve been celebrating Oktoberfest in the Philippines with much fun fare and overflowing beer, but the most authentic beer festival is celebrated by the Germans, tracing the roots of this festivity in Munich, Bavaria. In the country, there’s a way to have that authentic feel at the 76th Oktoberfest at Sofitel Manila. Happening on October 17 and 18 at the hotel’s Harbor Garden Tent. I was invited at the presscon where we had a chance to take a peek into what the actual event will be. If the presscon was an indication, I am definitely joining.
I have to admit that I’m not much of a hard-core beer drinker. I only drink beer and other alcoholic drinks during social gatherings. But that doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy the 76th Oktoberfest. I’m looking forward to drinking authentic German beer which I heard will be served during the actual festivities. That would be perfect because I haven’t had a beer from Germany. Naturally, there will be great tasting food for a foodie like me. And to make the event even more fun, there will be entertainment.
Everyone attending the Oktoberfest at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila will be singing and dancing as the world famous original Hofbräuhaus band and show from the legendary Hofbräuhaus in Munich will be performing on both evenings. Internationally acclaimed female yodeller Lissie will also be present for the first time in the Philippines. There will be musicians playing on cow-bells, dancers moving to the traditional folk dance of Bavarian Schuhplattler, and gigantic Alps Horn and Goaßlschnalzer being blown. How much authentic can this beer festival get?
There were no musicians at the presscon but there were dancing and beer drinking, and all fun especially with blogger friends around. It was my first time to attend; after the event I became more excited to attend the actual festivities. I learned that last year’s 2-day Oktoberfest was attended by over 4,000 guests who consumed more than 30,000 liters of beer, 1,000 kgs of German sausages, 300 kgs of pork knuckles and 250 kgs of sauerkraut.
I can imagine how things will be at the 76th Oktoberfest at Sofitel Manila and I’m looking forward to it. Be part of this authentic beer feast in the Philippines. German Club Manila members can get the tickets for Php3,200 while non-members can get it for Php3,300. Groups starting from 20-40 people get a discount at Php3,250. Call the German Club Manila at (632) 818.4236 (for entry and raffle tickets) or Sofitel Philippine Plaza at (632) 832.6988 and (632) 551.5555 ext. 6988 (for room reservation), or email firstname.lastname@example.org; email@example.com.

I spent my Saturday afternoon celebrating Grandparents Day with Jollibee at the Philippine Veteran Affairs Office in Camp Aguinaldo. It was my first time to celebrate this day simply because my grandparents are no longer with us. I sure wish I could celebrate this day with them around, so I could hug and kiss them. I remember the days of the past when we get to hang out with them to listen to stories, laugh and play. Seeing the elderly attending the small gathering led by Jollibee Foods Corporation made me miss them even more.
I got there in time while everyone’s still prepping up for the event. Then people started to trickle and Jollibee even showed up to be with the grandmothers who were already there. Everyone smiled with glee and shouted “Jollibee” upon the sight of the mascot. Jollibee gamely posed for photos. But the sweetest sight of them all is seeing him mingle with the lolas, hugged them and paid respect by doing the “mano po.”
As guests arrive, everybody were treated to Jollibee Chicken Joy, Jollibee Spaghetti and Yumburger. The food that kids loved were obviously enjoyed by the oldies too. The Bloomfields provided entertainment, playing the music of The Beatles. Young and old enjoyed the music and some elders even dancing while seated. Jollibee also presented a cake for everyone to enjoy.
Celebrating Grandparents Day with Jollibee and the elderly is such a heartwarming experience. It made me reflect on what I have done for and with my grandparents. And it makes me want to spend quality time with my family, young and old, with our without a reason to celebrate.
As a kid, I was always reminded by my mother to behave and avoid getting my clothes soiled. Back then, I only understood that it’s not cool to be dirty. When I grew up, I realized one of the reasons is really how difficult it is to wash clothes. Yes, I wash my own clothes and I salute all moms who do so for their families. And it’s good to know that they are getting recognized through Breeze Nationwide 1 Laba Day – a tribute to hardworking moms.
To celebrate the heroes of the home, one of the Philippines’ leading detergent brand, treated over 19,000 hardworking moms across the country to a day of rest, games and exciting surprises during the first-ever 1 Laba Day. Breeze took care of their laundry chores, washing a total of 481,536 clothes, in a series of events held all at the same time in multiple barangays in Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Batangas, Cebu, and Davao.
Celebrity moms and surprise guests, including Sige Moms Christine Bersola-Babao, Gladys Reyes and Dimples Romana, participated in the nationwide events. At Barangay Commonwealth in Quezon City, radio DJ Laila Chikadora also kept the crowd entertained with her witty jokes as she led the bingo games where moms won bicycles, skateboards, inflatable swimming pools and other toys for their children. These prizes were meant to encourage moms to be Sige Moms, the ones who let their kids play and go on exciting adventures without having to worry about dirt.
While the moms enjoyed 1 Laba Day and their day off from doing the laundry, Breeze Laba Ladies and Laba Machines, sponsored by campaign partners Electrolux, LG, Whirlpool and White Westinghouse, took care of washing their clothes.
“As part of the Circle of Sige Moms, our job is to encourage mommies to allow their kids to be kids, even if it means getting dirty or having stained clothes,” said Christine. “When we say yes to playing and going on adventures, we say yes to our children’s intellectual, emotional and physical growth.”
“My daughter Callie is very artsy and likes working with her hands. We love baking and often, we’d be covered in icing and food color of every hue,” said Sige Mom Dimples. “But I’m glad I allowed her to do that, because it’s very fulfilling when you see your child achieve great things because you allow them to do their own thing and pursue their passions.”
“Being a mom is a 24/7 job,” added Sige Mom Gladys. “But because we have a dependable partner in Breeze, doing the laundry becomes easier and effortless. We can spend less time on washing clothes and have more time for ourselves and our family.”
1 Laba guarantee
Boasting of a revolutionary formulation, Breeze with ActivBleach allows mommies everywhere remove the toughest stains in just one wash. This usually takes forever and as one who washes my own clothes, I can attest to this endless task. Breeze has a four-enzyme technology that removes more types of stains and a patented whitening technology that delivers visible whiteness in just one wash. That means washing clothes with Breeze is safe for both white and colored clothes.
Breeze with ActivBleach is also the first and only detergent brand with melamine perfume encapsulation technology. It means that the scent blooms during washing and bursts when the clothes are worn. It makes sure that clothes keep smelling clean and fresh even when worn. It even has a unique active system for better foam profile and quicker lather, plus percarbonate TAED bleach that takes out bleachable stains without harming the environment.
Mommies can also win a washing machine from Breeze in the Breeze 1Laba Challenge promo from September 1 to 7. To participate, you simply need to like the official Breeze Facebook page www.facebook.com/breezephilippines and look for the 1 Laba Day status update. They should then leave a comment on the post, with a photo of themselves doing the 1 Laba pose holding a Breeze pack and using the hashtag #Breeze1Laba.
I wonder how many stains were taken care of in just one wash at the Breeze Nationwide 1 Laba Day. You can do the same and enjoy more time with the family. Breeze is available at supermarkets and groceries nationwide and can be purchased in three sizes depending on your budget – 70g, 700g and 1450g packs. I sure wish Breeze with ActivBleach already exists when I was a kid.
