You will be amazed of TORUK – The First Flight by Cirque du Soleil. The show will have its Asian premiere in Manila, and is set to bring the same level of entertainment experienced in the US, Canada and Mexico. This production will be shown at the Mall of Asia Arena on June 23rd to July 2nd, 2017.
TORUK – The First Flight is inspired by James Cameron’s movie AVATAR. During the press conference, we learned that the writer and director of the movie was very much involved in developing the entire thing. He’s making sure everything is consistent to world of AVATAR. And because of this, Cameron is very happy with it.
Avatar is really meant to be a celebration of human motion and human emotion and Cirque is able to capture that absolutely perfectly because it’s all about human performance and physicality. It makes you feel alive to watch these performers! – James Cameron, writer and director of Avatar
I had the chance to watch the promotional video at the SM Megamall Director’s Club Cinema, and I was totally amazed of TORUK. Having performed in some production in my younger days, I can see the great effort in the making of this production. I love the costume, the production design, the choreography. I love everything!
This live immersive experience also bears the distinct signature of directors and multimedia innovators Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon. It is a living ode to the Na’vi’s symbiotic coexistence with nature and their belief in the basic interconnectedness of all living things. AVATAR fans will definitely geek out as they don’t just get to witness the awesomeness. They will also hear the characters speaking the Na’vi dialect.
I’m no AVATAR geek, but I can’t wait to watch the show! “After 15 months of touring North America and over 1.3 million fans, we are ecstatic to make our Asian debut in the great city of Manila! We heard Filipinos love the movie Avatar so we really hope they will join us to revisit Pandora in this visually stunning live setting. TORUK is a one-of-a-kind show with breathtaking video projections, impressive acrobatic acts, gigantic puppets… There is truly something for everyone in the family!’’ says Janie Mallet, publicist for TORUK – The First Flight.
At the presscon, we also met Cirque du Soleil’s Head Coach Michael Ocampo and Puppeteer Rob Laqui. Michael is a first generation Filipino-Canadian who has been working with Cirque du Soleil since 1993. Rob is a first generation Filipino-American, born and raised in Minnesota. It’s so good to know that some of our kababayans are part of this production.
