All these I learned at the Happiness Boot Camp last May 31-June 1, held at the Nurture Spa Village in Tagaytay City. An event I almost missed because of heavy traffic. I’m glad I took my chances and was able up catch the bus.
It was an eventful 2 days of relaxing, pampering, learning and getting to know each other. Just a perfect time to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although I had to stay up all night as everyone goes to bed (I have to be online for work, you see), it was all worth the while.
Mr. Winston Maximo is the first Happiest Pinoy, whom I had the privilege of meeting in the evening at the boot camp. He shared his inspiring story to bloggers present at the event. A father of 3 lovely girls, one of whom was born with Down Syndrome, he himself was diagnosed with a degenerative decease. Despite the seemingly bad luck that has befall him, he took it all in stride and lived a purposeful life, not only for his family but for the people around him. He is the COO of Hooven Philippines and the president of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines. People around him testifies to the positive impact the Happiest Pinoy has in their lives.
As Mr. Maximo talks in front of everybody, I’m inspired more by how he choose to think. He is not only positive, but he is selfless as well. Sharing his experience when he learned about his illness, his thoughts were “It’s a good thing this did not happen to the members of my family or close relatives.” This level of thinking cannot be easily achieved. Normal people will always have the tendency to ask God, “why me?” and start pointing at other people.
Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions Inc. (CLIS) and the search for the Happiest Pinoy is indeed a worthy advocacy on positivity, passion and a meaningful life. If you believe and is living this kind of life, let yourself be counted among the Happiest Pinoy. Visit the website for mechanics and more details on the Happiest Pinoy 2012.
