After the first season which aired in 2012, the reality show The Amazing Race Philippines is back with Derek Ramsay still as the host. Watch the exciting race on TV5 beginning Monday, October 6 at 7pm. I had the chance to watch the first two episodes of the show during a viewing party held at Resorts World Manila. From what I’ve watched, I can say that the Philippine franchise of the world’s most awarded and most successful reality show is at par as far as production value is concerned. I was not able to watch the first season, but the fact that the Kapatid Network was awarded the franchise again means that they were a success during the first time.
We’ve seen franchised reality shows on Philippine TV and some did not see the light of the day the second time around. I’d like to believe TV5 made such an impression. And it looks they will continue to break ground for the second season as the network goes all-out in producing The Amazing Race Philippines by commissioning Emmy award-winning activeTV, the same international production company behind The Amazing Race Asia. Led by their Executive Director Michael McKay, an international team of experienced producers and a huge team of local crew for The Amazing Race Philippines 2 were involved in the entire production of the series. A total of 39 cameras were used throughout the filming process to capture the adrenaline-pumping competition and action of the teams, and at the same time capturing the scenic landscapes of Philippines.
The Amazing Race Philippines (TARP) conducted a search throughout the country to find this season’s 11 teams who will try to outrun and outwit each other to be first to hit the mat at the Finish Line. I learned that auditions were held last June in key cities of the Philippines — Cebu, Davao, Pampanga and Metro Manila, where tons of Filipinos from all walks of life rushed in hope to be part of the adventure of a lifetime. Returning host Derek Ramsay, who was present at the Cebu and Metro Manila auditions, witnessed how the country quickly got back to the TARP fever. He noted, “The Filipinos love the show… they are ready for the show. I can say we are one of the most excited nations to have TARP.”
There’s a lot at stake for the race. Aside from the recognition, the prizes includes two house and lots, two SUVs and P2M cash. That’s almost 10 million pesos worth of prizes. The contestants is an interesting mix of personalities who are bound to gain the support and endear themselves to Filipino viewers across the country and all over the world. These eleven (11) pairs are: sexy besties RR Enriquez and Jeck Maierhofer, blonde sisters Tina and Avy Wells, chefs Eji Estillore and Roch Hernandez, dating couple Matt Edwards and Phoebe Walker, Juan D hunks Charlie Sutcliffe and Daniel Marsh, mag-amang AJ and Jody Saliba, nerds Vincent Yu and Ed Manguan, travel buddies Zarah Evangelista and Osang Dela Rosa, Mr. Pogi bros JP Duray and Kelvin Engles, magkapatid Jet and Yna Cruz, and Pinay world champs Gretchen Albaniel and Luz McClitton.
As The Amazing Race Philippines is Back with Derek Ramsay, I now have an alternative show to watch, and that’s a good thing. Watch as the biggest reality show this year makes its amazing premiere this October 6 on TV5. The Amazing Race Philippines Season 2 is powered by Rexona and sponsored by PLDT Home Telpad, Summit Natural Drinking Water, Kia, RCD Royal Homes and Resorts World Manila.
