I caught the Olympic fever after watching the Opening Ceremony of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics at midnight of February 8 (Philippine time). It was aired live from Russia and it was spectacular. I learned that TV5 is the official Philippine Olympic network, and I have 5 reasons to watch the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics on TV5.
1. Full Coverage of the Olympic game
Because the Kapatid network is the official Olympic network in the Philippines, that means that they will provide full coverage of the games in the next 16 days. That’s over 500 hours of Olympic action from Sochi, Russia. Broadcasting from the TV5 Olympic Center in Novaliches, Aaron Atayde, Anthony Suntay and Patricia Bermudez-Hizon will be the presenters. The network will also be providing daily updates and features of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics live from the actual venue with James Velasquez and Chique Roa-Puno. TV5 will be delivering live and delayed coverage through AksyonTV and Hyper, the 24/7 sports channel.
2. Michael Christian Martinez
Who? Michael Christian Martinez, the lone representative of the Philippines to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics is one big reason to tune in to TV5’s broadcasts. The figure skater will be performing during the eliminations round on February 13. He will be competing for the top 24 finals which will be happening on February 14.
3. Gilmore Junio
Another Filipino who will be competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics is Gilmore Junio. Although he represents Canada, the son of Filipino immigrants deserves our support. Junio will be participating in the Men’s 500 meter Speed Skating event on February 10. On February 12, he will also participate in the Men’s 1000 meter race on the same sporting category.
4. JR Celski
The 3rd athlete with a Filipino blood competing at Sochi 2014 is JR Celski of the United States. The speed skater of Filipino-Polish-America descent will compete in 4 track events happening at various days of February – 500 meter, 1000 meter, 1500 meter and 5000 meter relay.
5. The Winter Olympics
Of course, the Sochi Winter Olympics is a spectacular event worth tuning into. More than 3,000 athletes are competing in 98 events at the XXII Olympic Winter Games. This is the first Winter Olympics in Russia and we all get to see the sights and sounds prepared by the former Socialist republic. The opening of Olympics I watched last night is simply awesome. Check out the photos I found online.
The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics will also be shown online and through mobile platforms in partnership with PLDT Home Fibr, SMART and digital satellite provider, Cignal.
