Topics on cancer hits me hard straight to the heart. That’s because my mother died of cancer in 2005 after being diagnosed of stage 3 breast cancer at the latter part of the1990s. She had surgery in 1999, but the condition worsened as the cancer cells metastasized to bone cancer in 2002, then suffered gum cancer in 2005. She lost her battle on December 2005. I can’t help but cry as I write this blog because I can still remember the pain and suffering she had to go through. At the recent product launch, I learned about Evolife and how it helps cancer patients deal with life a little easier. How I wish these products were available back then.
Cancer patients of today are so blessed that products such as Evolife are now available in the market. Evolife is a full-range of cancer-support care products that treat a cutaneous and cutaneous-mucous side effects induced by chemotheraphy and radiotheraphy. It started in France about 5 years ago, and was introduced in the US in 2010. Last year, the range of products were tested in the Philippine market.
We all know that once cancer strikes, the next step will likely be surgery, chemotherapy and cobalt treatment. When my mom was diagnosed with this illness, she didn’t have to go through chemotherapy because she’s already past the age of 50. The doctors said that women’s metabolism slows down at her golden years, hence the cancer cells spreading like wildfire is likely not to happen. She went through mastectomy and radiation instead. I was by her side when she had the surgery until it healed. She was fairly strong when she had her cobalt treatment that she opted to go to the hospital all by herself. Besides, I have responsibilities at work and I cannot be absent frequently. I remember seeing her skin on the chest area darkens, and she shared it was the effects of the radiation. That was the only complain I heard from her, which she simply brushed off as normal.
I should have known better. My mom is strong and can hide any pain and suffering just so I wouldn’t have to worry about her. I realized that further as the Evolife product launch went along. Chemotherapy, cobalt treatment and other forms of treatment to cure or at least control the spread of cancer cells has its side effects. I am aware of the pain, the loss of appetite and falling hair, not to mention the social stigma that they have to go through. I am aware of that and did my best to help my mother during the course of her battle. But what’s disheartening is the fact that there are side effects that she simply had to deal with on her own because there’s nothing she can do with it.
When she got sick, she experienced chipped nails, skin discoloration, and as her situation worsened, swollen parts on her face and body. That was quite disheartening, especially for a woman. I have a good understanding of how the opposite sex feel and think, growing up in a female-dominated family. I do know how one can be so conscious and all. These side effects can make a cancer patient’s situation worse and could lead them to give up the treatment if they’re not strong enough or don’t have a strong support system.
I’m really happy learning about Evolife and how it is able to help ease the side effects of cancer treatments. During the product launch, we got to meet four strong-willed ladies who are all battling breast cancer and suffered the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. They all attested to the efficacy of these cancer-support care products.
They all looked so healthy and willingly shared their experiences. I know it’s hard to talk about cancer and the battles they each go through. But it’s good that they’re willing to share the good news of Evolife. All of this would have never happened without the partnership between Point of Care Solutions, Inc (PCSI) and Unilab Laboratories. Bringing the Evolife range of products here in the country in 2011, Mr. Michael Avelino, PCSI Managing Director shared that clinical trials locally produced positive results. The testing period was led by radio oncologist, Dr. Mary Ann Genica B. Reyna, who made sure that the products are really effective before making any recommendation acknowledging the fact that as a practitioner, she has the legal obligation to the patients that she’s treating.
Evolife products includes of skin products (EvoSkin Gel Cream and EvoSkin Hydrating Skin Cleanser) which provide a unique hydrating solution for skin side effects of cancer therapy such as cracks, dryness and a burning sensation; dental products (EvoMucy mouthwash and spray) for mouth sores, (EvoLip) for chapped or sensitive lips, (EvoDry) mouth spray to combat mouth and throat dryness, and (EvoDonto) toothpaste for sensitive and irritated gums; a hair product (EvoCapil) for hydrating hair spray that calms the scalp and rejuvenates hair follicles to encourage hair re-growth; a hygiene product (EvoDeo Deodorant Spray) which includes an alcolohol-free deodorant spray for hypersensitive skin controls hot flashes and excessive sweating and nail products (EvoNail) which helps revitalize darkened, yellow, brittle or cracked nails and restores them to their natural state.
I can only be so glad that these products are now available in the Philippines all the way from France. Even better, these products are offered at a lower price compared to when ordered overseas. This is where the partnership with Unilab makes it even better as more cancer patients suffering from the various treatment side effects will be able to ease up the burden that’s causing them.
Cancer patients can now deal with life a little easier with Evolife. The products can be purchased through several cancer centers nationwide and is also available online at Evolife Website. Interested parties are advised to seek doctor’s advise for proper guidance on its usage and application. But as for me, I can only be thankful that my mom is now in heaven, no longer suffering from pain, deformities and these side effects. Let me share a video I created for her back in 2010.
