Rocco, Steven and Enzo Cooking

I was at the Glorietta Activity Center last October 9th where Lee Kum Kee dominated the entire area with booths to showcase their products to the public. It was part of their celebration of making authentic Chinese sauces for 123 years. That

Duped? My Recent Bad Experience with HTC Philippines

I was at SM Mall of Asia last weekend for the Orange Magazine TV re-launch. I observed that I have been frequenting this mall despite the distance from my place. I was at the mall a week ago, September 15th to be exact for the opening of the art festival Zero In: Open Call. Then I remembered having visited the HTC Concept Store which was actually a part of a bad experience with the phone manufacturer. I almost forgot about it and I brushed it off already. But it looms in my mind like a bad taste in my mouth. Last September 14th, I was at the HTC ChaCha workshop. It was neither a blogger nor a media event – just a way for HTC to promote one of their latest phones. The workshop was open to the public, to anyone interested to learn more about the Facebook phone. This ...

Zeroed in Different Forms of Art

It was an awesome sensory experience as I witnessed and was immersed on the different forms of art presented at the opening of Zero In: Open Call art festival at the SM Mall of Asia (SM MOA) Atrium last night, September 15th. Along with other guests, including anti-crime advocate Mrs. Teresita Ang See, I learned about the art in different permutations. Museum representatives discussed Zero In: Open Call Zero In is a consortium of Manila’s top private museums coming together to collaborate and bring art into the consciousness of everyone — both foreigners and Filipinos. The Lopez Museum, Ateneo Art Gallery, Ayala Museum, Bahay Tsinoy and Museo Pambata has been working together and along with fellow bloggers, I had the chance to sit down and talk to the representatives of each museum prior to the opening of the event. Ateneo Art Gallery Director and Chief Curator Ramon E.S. Lerma shared ...

Be Ready for the Virtual Workplace

Less than 6 months after I resigned from regular employment to focus on my online business, I got bored. I’m used to being busy working on different tasks. But with a lot of time in my hands, I contemplated on going back to being employed again. Then I got to watch a television show featuring freelance work online. It looks like the virtual workplace has arrived in the Philippines. Prior to resigning in 2009, I learned about oDesk — a platform where contractors and freelancers sign up, interact and eventually enter into a working relationship. I explored the opportunity of landing a writing gig, but it was really challenging. Too challenging that I ended up almost abandoning the system. I am in constant search of opportunities for freelance work. When I had the chance to dedicate time exploring opportunities in this platform, I eventually succeeded. I am in constant search ...

Gadget Discoveries at the AstroPlus and OrangeMagazineTV Bloggers Blowout

I was fortunate to have been included in the first Bloggers’ Blowout by AstroPlus and OrangeMagazineTV last September 3rd at the Greenbelt 5 in Makati. I signed up for the “tech” niche, although there were slots for “music” and “movies”. I would have wanted to join all categories, but with the limitations, the gadget geek in me ruled over. The event started at 1PM though the portion for tech bloggers was scheduled at 4PM. I was at the Rockwell’s Ultimate Taste Test but had to leave to be able to attend this interesting event. Interesting because for me, AstroPlus is all about CDs and DVDs, and I’m looking forward to knowing what sort of gadgets they have in store. When I arrived, the store is full of beautiful people from the blogosphere, some of whom I knew but most of them I met for the first time. The session for ...

Authentic Original Top-Sider Sperry in the Philippines

Sperrys Top Siders

As the month of August ends and September begins, I noticed malls going on sale. I haven’t been shopping lately, and I realized I needed some fix. I was at the Eastwood Mall and I chanced upon a store with a large poster display of a top-sider. You see, I have such a love affair with shoes that I can’t help but check it out — there’s lots of them inside the store and I can’t help but drool. The top-sider shoes are Sperry — an American brand — the original boat shoes, and they’re now in the Philippines via Complex Lifestyle Store. I love top-siders because it’s easy to wear and is perfect for a casual look. I even have a pair in patent cobalt blue, but I didn’t know it was originally created by Paul Sperry in 1935. I’ve seen it in too many different brands that I ...

Food Critic for a Day – the Ultimate Taste Test

I experienced becoming a chef for a day at the Magsaysay Institute of Hospitality & Culinary Arts. Last September 3rd, I had the chance to be a food critique at the Ultimate Taste Test by Our Awesome Planet at the Rockwell Tent. A wide selection of food concessionaires were gathered and lined up to showcase their specialties. It was my first time to attend such an event, and I have to say I was overwhelmed not knowing how and where to start. We arrived at past 11am and the venue is already abuzz with people and the media. I was with a fellow blogger – Lakwatsera Mom – and I just followed her cue, moving from one booth to another. Armed with a pen and our “passport” to rate each concessionaire and the food they served. Pastries, finger food, dimsum, drinks, pasta, meats and sausages – they’re all under one ...
