“lsang Linggong Pag-ibig” by LA Santos with Millennial Twist
The song “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig” by LA Santos is given a new sound. For the unfamiliar, it’s one of the popular songs of Imelda Papin. Google her name and you’d know she’s a popular singer that started in the late 70s and is still very recognizable until today. She even served the government as Vice Governor of Camarines Sur.
Composed by Mon Del Rosario, “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig” topped the charts when it was released in 1992. It even earned multiple platinum sales recognition. I heard the song often on the radio.
When I heard that the song is being revived, I had my doubts. I honestly think that only the original can give justice to the song with it’s tenderly passionate sound that only Imelda Papin can deliver. But when I heard “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig” by LA Santos, I can’t help but give a nod of approval. It was given a fresh sound, and I liked it.
“Isang Linggong Pag-ibig” Blogcon
I had the chance to attend the bloggers conference with LA Santos. This is not the first time to meet the young artist and I look forward to knowing any developments with his career. And true enough, things are going even better.
As we tried to gather information in relation to his latest project, we learned that he’s been wanting to record the song ever since. He shared his fond memories of the song when he was still a kid.
L.A. also said that he had inputs in the arrangement of the song, but it was Mon Del Rosario and Imelda Papin who did the entire arrangement of the song. The end result was a sound that appeals, not only to the millenials, but also to those who are familiar with the original.
The emerging artist is now studying music production and plans to compose his own songs.
The Chosen One
L.A. Santos can be considered the chosen one for the revival of this song. The veteran singer and entertainment producer Imelda Papin shared his thoughts about LA Santos, “Given his qualities as an emergent millennial artist in the contemporary music scene, L.A. is the best to revive the song among the male singers,” Ms. Papin stated, adding, “So we finalized the idea. I said, sige i-record na natin. Sabi ko, ako na mag-produce para mas maganda.”
For a period spanning almost three decades, the popularity of “lsang Linggong Pag-ibig” never waned and remains as such to date. Until this formal launch of L.A.’s rendition, the song was never since revived.
When asked if somebody in the local music industry ever went up to her earlier on, hinting on reviving her hit song, “Meron, marami, pero wala ako pinagbigyan,” Ms. Papin responded. “Ang sabi k0 kay Mon Del Rosario na siyang composer, might as well na bago natin ibigay sa iba, pwede bang ako na muna ang bibili?” she explained further.
“lsang Linggong Pag-ibig” by LA Santos is rendered with a millenial twist, departing from the purely ballad form the song was originally arranged, without abandoning the nostalgic message of its melody. “Pang-millennial talaga, pinag-aralan talaga namin,” Ms. Papin described L.A.’s rendition. “Pumayag akong mapalitan ang version ko kasi kapag revival, dapat iba ang tempo para hindi kapareho ng original. Dapat mas magugustuhan ng mga millennial ang kanyang style,” she explained.
A Hit Song and “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig”
Asked what he hops to achieve soon, L.A. said that all he is hoping for now is a hit song. This revival could be the hit he’s waiting for. It was a hit when Imelda Papin sang the original. There’s a possibility that it will also be a big hit for the young recording artist.
