I had a charming staycation at Le Charme Suites Subic. The last time I had an overnight stay in the area was inside one of the converted barracks formerly used by the US soldiers when they were still occupying the base. Being at a hotel is a welcome change, but little did I know I’d be in for an awesome experience.
I was at the hotel to cover their Game of Thrones-themed Halloween Party with cosplay. I don’t celebrate Halloween, but I was curious about the hotel which a few bloggers have already talked about early this year. Le Charme Suites is the newest business and leisure hotel in Subic operated by a Filipino and Taiwanese-owned company, Grand Pillar International Development, Inc.
When I checked the place on Google, I noticed that the hotel is in a building – at the La Terraza Building to be exact. That got me wondering, because establishments like these are usually built on its own building. Apparently, the entire building is owned by the same company, and Le Charme was not supposed to be there.
We learned that the space was supposed to be a showroom for high-end furniture. But the owners discovered such a business would not fly. So they opted to have a hotel instead. But when you enter Le Charme Suites Subic, you won’t think this is a hotel within a building.
From the hotel lobby, to the halls leading to the rooms, and the room itself, you’ll feel that you’re in a world class hotel. Le Charme Suites Subic has European-themed interiors, 45 stylish rooms, a spin class fitness center, a teppanyaki and a Filipino-Hispanic restaurant, a milk tea cafe, a karaoke and virtual reality (VR) entertainment center, and a roof deck half-Olympic sized swimming pool which gives guests an almost 360-degree view of the freeport zone.
“The name of our hotel is French for ‘charm’ or ‘a charmer’ and that’s exactly what we aspire to do: to entice both local and foreign tourists especially those who are tired of the hustle and bustle of the city and are looking for a place to unwind and relax or seek adventure in this part of the country,” said Josephine Floresca, part-owner and managing director of Le Charme Suites Subic.
Subic is a destination with different attractions that lured local tourists. It provides an out-of-the-country feel yet it is so accessible being only a few hours drive from Metro Manila. And with the many activities that tourists can do, it’s just practical to stay for a night or two and enjoy a vacation.
Le Charme Suites Subic Rooms
What sets Le Charme Suites Subic apart among other hotels in the area is its generosity when it comes to space. It offers the most spacious rooms — with at least 40 square meters of floor area. Every room boasts of bathrooms with a bathtub and a separate shower area. When I entered the room assigned to me, I was floored.
I was assigned to a Deluxe Twin Room – it has two double beds, a seating area, office area, and the bathroom with a bathtub. Indeed, there’s ample space to walk around, even if a family of four would occupy the room. I remember staying in a hotel room similar in size, but the big difference is that Le Charme’s bathroom has separate shower and bathtub.
And the bed is very comfortable yet not too soft that it’ll drown you. I had my massage inside the room and despite the masseuse working her way all over my body, I didn’t sink. I also had a good sleep in it. I went to bed at around 1am, then woke up at around 5am, yet I still felt energized and ready to get started for the new day.
And I liked the fact that you can consume all the drinks inside the fridge, and you won’t be charged for it. Yep, everything is complimentary unlike other hotels where you’ll be concerned to consume them because of the exorbitant price tag for a bottle of water or a can of soda.
Guests staying at Le Charme Suites Subic won’t have to worry about going out to eat. Although there are restaurants all over Subic, you don’t have to go that far to enjoy good food. There’s Teppan 101, which is apparently the only Asian-fusion restaurant in Subic. The restaurant is within the building occupied by the hotel which not only serves delicious food but provides a short entertainment from the chefs.
At the hotel’s house restaurant, Mi Tapas, which serves European-inspired dishes. This is where we had our breakfast. There’s a buffet of salad, breads, and cereals. We also enjoyed our Filipino breakfast.
Le Charme Suites has a KTV Room for those who want to do karaoke. If you’re a gamer, you’ll definitely enjoy the VR entertainment area where a group of 4 can play together. We learned that the games are updated on a regular basis, and will change according to the season. During our stay, guests played a zombie game.
Aside from relaxing at the penthouse pool, the hotel has a partnership with a nearby spa. You can book a massage in your room, like I did. For the physically active, there’s the spin bike classes.
Halloween Treat and More
As mentioned, I was at the hotel to do my coverage for Le Charme Suites Halloween Party. There were guest cosplayers, and a competition as well. But what I loved most is that the hotel transformed itself into a haunting and fun place.
Throughout the hotel, you will see decors and installations such as the Grim Reaper. The virtual reality (VR) entertainment center also features a horror-themed game. It’s amusing and amazing at the same time.
The hotel also offers packaged tours that will have you visiting the other attractions in the area. We went to Jest Camp where we had sumptuous lunch at Kawayan Kitchen, enjoying dishes cooked in bamboo. Inside the camp, we also watched the Wings of the World bird show at Magaul Bird Park. We also watched a demo of survival skills like cooking with bamboo, starting a fire, etc.
“We want to give our guests a different kind of experience each time they come to our hotel. This Halloween, apart from dressing up the hotel to the occasion, we also held a cosplay event and opened our virtual reality (VR) entertainment center for the first time,” revealed Floresca. “When our guests come back in Christmas or summer season, our goal is to make them feel as if they have come to a different Le Charme hotel,” she added.
Le Charme promises excellent accommodation, great food and professional, personalized services to its guests so they could do whatever they have come to Subic for: whether work or business and leisure (“Bleisure”). “We also want to target quite a number of triathletes, cyclists and nature adventure seekers visiting Subic each year, and so we opened spin bike classes at our fitness center and installed a bike rack in every room so our guests could safely and conveniently park their bikes and gears. Soon we shall be offering a massage and spa service especially tailored to fit the needs of athletes,” Floresca added.
It was indeed a charming weekend having a staycation at Le Charme Suites Subic. Make sure you experience the same on your next Subic vacation by making your booking. They also offers group and corporate discounts for early bookings. They also have a function room which is perfect for conferences, training, product launches, and even weddings. Affordable package are available for special events featuring the pool area which can accommodate up to 200 guests.
