Hawker Chan Glorietta 3 opens to the public on March 4, 2019! Yep, the Michelin-starred restaurant in Singapore which has established a branch at the Mall of Asia and SM North Edsa is finally in Makati. Get ready for the long lines when it opens. I can imagine it now, the restaurant filled with young professionals, executives, and foreigners.
I have to admit I haven’t been following the food scene in the metro. And since I’m not the type who has FOMO (fear of missing out), I don’t really run after what’s the latest. So I was surprised to learn about Hawker Chan, a restaurant tracing its roots from Singapore. It has received a star rating from the Michelin Food Guide Singapore in July 2016.
If you’re not aware, any restaurant getting the ubiquitous Michelin Star immediately gets international recognition. I was invited to attend the soft launch even before the restaurant opens to the public. When I entered Hawker Chan Glorietta 3, it looks very unassuming with its casual vibe and quick-service setup.
As I looked at the menu, I was surprised with the pricing. It’s true! Hawker Chan is the World’s Cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant! I’d rather call it the world’s most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant. And yes, the dishes are really affordable, you can treat your family and friends for lunch or dinner and still it won’t put a hole in your pocket.
Among the dishes that diners can look forward to at Hawker Chan Glorietta 3 are its signature rice or noodle meals featuring soya sauce chicken, char siew, roasted pork, and braised beef. These dishes are priced to be extremely pocket-friendly. On the average, the price range per dish is only PHP 100.00 to 150.00!
Additionally, the newest offering to the menu is the Roast Combination Platter. Perfect for those who wish to avail a hefty serving of Hawker Chan’s signature meats. With the platter, you can indulge in Soya Sauce Chicken, Char Siew, Roast Pork, Deep-Fried Dumplings, with Braised Beans and Steamed Vegetable. Now diners can get the best of the best, and share it with everyone for only P1,560. Milk tea fans can also enjoy a Hong Kong style milk tea drink, perfect to go with any dish, for only P88!
Hawker Chan, is founded by Malaysian Chef Chan Hong Meng, the son of a farmer, who flew to Singapore in the 1980s and trained under a Hong Kong chef, Hawker Chan has now expanded its reach to a global market. Foodee Global Concepts was responsible for bringing the restaurant to the Philippine shore.
They ensure that the Hawker Chan experience from Singapore is the same experience you’ll get in Manila. I learned that Hawker Chan himself visits the country every 3 months. That’s proof of their commitment to bring authenticity.
I really enjoyed the dishes. The Soya Sauce Chicken is tender and full of flavor. It feels like I’m eating a Peking Duck. I enjoyed the crackling of Roasted Pork. The meat are tender and retains the quality even if the food is already cold (we had to take the pictures, you know hehe). The dipping sauces brings in a different layer of goodness.
“We’ve seen how Filipinos try to visit the top-rated restaurants whenever they travel, so we thought why not bring these restaurants to the country? Since Pinoys love to visit Hawker Chan in Singapore, we thought we’d bring it here, and offer the same combination of great food and affordable luxury to them.” said FOODEE Global Concepts CEO. Mr. Rikki Dee.
It should be noted that FOODEE Global Concepts, industry maverick that has transformed the Filipino dining scene, was also the one who brought in other restaurants such as the Michelin-starred Tim Ho Wan, FOO’D By Davide Oldani, Kam’s Roast, Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles and Llaollao’s unique Spanish frozen yogurt. Yep, they were responsible for bringing in best tasting dishes to the Philippines.
Located at the Ground Floor, Glorietta 3, at Ayala Center, the Hawker Chan seats 70 and is perfect for those who want a great, affordably-priced, hearty meal. This is why I quickly imagined how the restaurant will be quickly filled with customers from all walks of life.
