I Heart San Marino Canned Tuna

I love fish, but because I live solo, there’s no point going to the market to buy in bulk which may eventually spoil. So I get my fix when eating out. But at times I crave when I’m home, so I make sure I also have a stock of canned tuna in the kitchen shelves. Then I discovered San Marino Corned Tuna. But I really want the kind that’s chunky and it’s a good thing the brand had the hearty line with it’s Blue Mackerel and Tuna Fillet in Spanish Style. Just like Kris Aquino, I heart San Marino! Just today, I received a gift pack from CDO Foodsphere! It’s the recently launched premium San Marino Limited Edition Gift Set. Elegantly-packaged, this product is the perfect hearty gift for our loved ones. It contains four cans of San Marino Yellowfin tuna fillet in Olive Oil 180g which is rich in ...

An American Tradition Experience at ClawDaddy Bonifacio High Street

Huge Prawn at ClawDaddy BHS

The first time I got to taste ClawDaddy‘s food was in 2011 at the Appetite Restaurant Festival at the ShangriLa Plaza Mall. From that point I have been longing to visit their restaurant. So on a rainy fourth of July, while the traffic is bad, I hang out with friends at ClawDaddy Bonifacio High Street. It was very timely because I got to experience an American tradition as we had the Seafood Boil in a Bag — a regular fare in the US when having picnic during holidays, especially in summer. Americans love cooking outdoors and when they do, one of the usual food served on the table aside from barbecue is a boiling pot of seafood and sausages. The mix causes a play of flavor, that’s interesting and appetizing. That’s exactly what we enjoyed. The Seafood Boil in a Bag is served in a food-grade plastic bag, opened before ...

Taste the Flavors of Asia at Marriott Manila

I love Asian food, and although I have yet to travel outside the Philippines, my dining experiences gave me a glimpse of the world. I’m sure everyone will agree that food is one of the best way to know more about a country’s culture. And when it comes to flavor and spices, I can say that nothing comes close to the flavors of Asia. Now here’s good news to people who love Asian food. Marriott Manila brings home four of the Asia ’s most famous cuisines to pay tribute to the most revered cuisine. From Thailand , Malaysia , Indonesia and Vietnam, Marriott Cafe tantalizes everyone with a masterpiece through a month-long celebration of Oriental flavors that’s uniquely Marriott. What else could be more exciting other than a larger than life encounter with Renaissance Kuala Lumpur’s Ruhizad Muri, JW Marriott Jakarta’s Dadang Wahyudi, Renaissance Riverside Saigon Phan Tien Hoa, and ...

Domo Arigato Roboto San

Food - The City Roamer - Roboto San Japanese Grill Buffet

Nope. I’m not trying to sing the song Mr. Roboto by Styx; I’m actually thanking the latest Japanese Grill Buffet restaurant Roboto San, located at the 2nd floor of Crossroads, along the 32nd Street of Bonifacio Global City, for the gastronomic experience I had a few weeks ago. The people that brought you SumoSam, John and Yoko, Marciano’s and Mr. Kurosawa are the ones behind this eat-all-you-can fare, with restauranteur Chef Ricky Laudico as the mastermind.   I’m like a kid again as I saw the caricatured robot greeting me at the door, reminding me of my childhood days in the late 70s and early 80s. As I enter the restaurant, I felt like I was warped into a different zone because of the futuristic look I’m beholding, made possible by the white panels that moved to different directions, complemented by the purple walls and beams. It looked like a ...

Donut Talk — The Go Nuts Donuts Bloggers Event

Go Nuts Donuts Personal Creation - Vamp Sweets by Alwin Aguirre

Middle of April, I received an invite to a bloggers’ event dubbed Donut Talk from Go Nuts Donuts. It was surprising really because I’m not aware that I signed up for anything donut nor did I read anywhere about an event from Go Nuts. As the days passed by going to the big day, I still don’t have a clue who else is going aside from me. Not one of my blogger friends said they’re going. I felt special that way, having received an invite for an event without me clamoring to get in. Last May 2nd, I headed to SM Mall of Asia where the location of the event was held. There we were told that it’s actually Go Nuts Donuts first-ever blogger event. Hosted by WhenInManila.com Editor-In-Chief and Mellow 94.7 FM DJ Vince Golangco, the event was short and sweet, but filled with surprises, just like a donut. ...

Holy Cow, it’s Pop Corn! It’s Holy Kettle Corn!

Holy Kettle Corn Snack Packs

I’ve been seeing this small kiosk selling pop corn as I roam the city, Holly Kettle Corn reads the store name. I always wanted to try it, knowing that pop corn is actually a healthy snack compared to chips. I’ve had my share of pop corn cooking as these snack comes in many forms in the grocery. But I’m not really into such snacking form so I seldom get to buy. I’d rather eat stuff that’s more filling, but it’s a fact that sometimes, you just don’t have the time to make snacks. These types of snacks are really convenient to have, so I gave it a go and had a couple of flavors of Holy Kettle Corn. I was surprised that they come in sealed foil packs, except for one — the original flavor comes in paper packaging. I then realized this is different from another brand with an ...

Beyond Delicious — the Foods at Isabelo Garden Restaurant

Dining at Isabelo Garden Restaurant in Marikina was such a great experience. I talked about the ambience and service, now let me talk about the food. There were 11 of us at the table, and I’m sure everyone went home full. My experience is beyond the delicious food on the table. It was actually a dining experience that filled my whole being. I’ve been full several times. I tasted different kinds of food that’s nothing short of delicious. I love good food and I have my favorites. At the Eats A Date event, we were served quite a number of foods on the table — appetizers, main course and desserts. I enjoyed the Spinach Artichoke Dip that was served first. Then came the Pinoy Tuscan Salad which started to wake me up. I’m no expert in identifying the ingredients of food so I can’t tell you anything unless it’s very ...

A Very Personal Service from Isabelo Garden Restaurant

On my previous post, I shared my thoughts on Isabelo Garden Restaurant’s look and feel. Throughout the night, I marvelled at the place and the food. As I went home still reeling from such an awesome dining experience, I realized how respectful, humble and unassuming everyone was at the restaurant — from the owner Ms. Portia Baluyot to the two waiters who were assigned to us that night and the rest of the people I interacted with during that night. As I entered the gate of the venue for Eats A Date, the man who let me in directed me to the right path. It was raining and the path I was about to take was a bit muddy. I was led to a better path going to the table assigned to us. As I settle down, the waiter almost instantly handed me a glass of water. He did the ...

A Unique Dining Place — Isabelo Garden Restaurant

On a rainy Friday evening I headed to the heart of Marikina to join OpenRice.com’s mini-eyeball event dubbed Eats A Date. Having lived in the area for half of my life, I found it interesting that Marikina is now a bustling city with restaurants dotting the road leading to my actual destination. Much more interesting is the fact that a garden restaurant will be the venue of the food tasting event — the Isabelo Garden Restaurant. OpenRice.com is a dining guide website boasting thousands of reviews from its members which has grown into a community. Tracing its roots from Hong Kong, the Philippine counterpart started only last year and is managed by the people behind JobsDB.com.ph and 88DB.com. It is an honor to be chosen and take part in this dining experience. Isabelo Garden Restaurant is quite hidden from the public eye, giving it a mysterious vibe. I took note ...
