Tour Southeast Asia at Banana Leaf

Banana Leaf TriNoMa

With all the character, flavor and influence of Asian cuisine, I just can’t get enough of it. The color and aroma, as it intertwines with sweet, tangy and spicy flavor is simply irresistible. It’s a testament of the different influences from China, Europe and North America — a tapestry of culture that is very evident, with similarities and yet is unique on its own. I had the opportunity to tour Southeast Asia at Banana Leaf Restaurant as I got to taste the wide range of dishes hailing from the said region. As I entered the restaurant, I noticed how clean and simple the entire place is. I love that it’s well-lit, with big windows that allows the natural light to illuminate the entire place. They also offer al fresco dining which is quite nice because the place is actually at the topmost part of the mall. When everyone got settled, ...

Asian Fusion at the Bonifacio Global City via the Singapore Food Republic by Nasi Lemak

Singapore Food Republic by Nasi Lemak at BGC

If there’s any cuisine that I love in this world, it’s Asian food. I just love the flavor, the character and the spice in every bite. I had the chance to experience a taste of Singapore and the rest of Asia at the Bonifacio Global City — Singapore Food Republic by Nasi Lemak. Despite having frequented the area, The Fort and the entirety of the BGC is such a foreign place for me. So when blogger friend Yani of Yaniconquistadora invited me to join them, I was quite hesitant because I know I will have to figure out how to get there. Then Vance of Ang Takaw Ko decided to tag along as she is also not familiar with the place. That made the challenge extra; not that I don’t want her company. I just don’t want to be primary responsible in making her late because I know I will ...

Baked Fried Chicken at Stackers Burger Cafe

Stackers Burger Cafe Eastwood

I wasn’t able to go out during the long weekend because of the many tasks I had to accomplish at home. After successfully completing all those, I wanted to reward myself with good food. Last Thursday, I found myself at Stackers Burger Cafe in Eastwood City.   It was my first time at this restaurant. As the name suggests, their main offerings are burgers. But what caught my attention was their Baked Fried Chicken, with 80% less oil. I was intrigued; it was the first time that I heard this kind of cooking. I gave it a try and had their 2 pieces variant with fries. They do offer the meal with rice and is also available in one piece meal.   While I wait for my order, I sipped on Strawberry Lemonade Float. It was a perfect cooler on a hot day, with indulgence on the side. When the ...

Subic Got Clawed! ClawDaddy Opens at Harbor Point Mall

ClawDaddy Harbor Point Grand Opening

When the Philippine government converted the former US military base it into a freeport zone, Subic has been a traveler’s destination. With roughly 2-3 hours travel time from Manila, one can enjoy the many attractions it offers. On a rainy Saturday early this August, I found myself in this place once again. I was here several times already. I remember living in one of those basecamp where the American soldiers used to live. I experienced climbing up a 40 feet post in the Subic Extreme Adventure. Then I remembered having awesome dining experiences in restaurants I no longer remember the name. This time I found myself at the Harbor Point Mall, just in time for ClawDaddy‘s Grand Opening. I shared my first ClawDaddy experience before and it was really good. Here’s a chance to experience it again, I said to myself. It was mid-morning and so we decided to have ...

Chinese Dishes by the Dragon Chef

Dragon Chef Hearty and Hip Chinese Cuisine

Chinese cuisine has always been a part if the Filipino culture. Unlike other foreign dishes, we often encounter Chinese foods at home even on regular days. But naturally, these were already cooked the Filipino way. To really experience authentic Chinese cooking, one has to visit a restaurant. I happen to discover one at TriNoMa — Dragon Chef — Hearty and Hip Chinese Cuisine.Located at the 4th Level of TriNoMa in Quezon City, the restaurant is the newest baby of restauranteur Ricky Laudico and Chef Florabel. This is the same group behind SumoSam and RobotoSan and is quite a departure from their other restaurants. Aside from offering Chinese cuisine, the place is also small when compared to their other restaurants that I’ve visited. But that’s actually a good thing because then the service becomes more intimate and the place more quiet. For starters I tried theiri dimsums — Han Gao Shrimp ...

A Pleasant Korean Dining Experience at Yoogane

Yoogane Il Terrazo

I have been to only one Korean restaurant all this time. Not because I dislike Korean cuisine; it’s just that there are no opportunities presented to me. The last time was in 2007 with colleagues in a whole-on-the-wall Korean restaurant in Makati whose name I can’t remember anymore. I don’t even know if they still exist. So when an invite came to taste the food at Yoogane (you-gah-ne) on its opening day, I delightfully said yes. Located at the Upper Ground Floor of Il Terrazzo in Quezon City, Yoogane is a big place perfect for family and friends. It’s well lit and has an airy, casual ambience that I like. Hovering above the ceiling is an exhaust system which snakes throughout the restaurant with ends that slopes toward every dining table. That’s because food can be cooked right in front of your very eyes. I love the furnishings, which I ...

Winning Snack Time at Max’s Corner Bakery with Max’s Merienda Mixes

Pancit and Ube Roll with Drink

Snacks! We all love to have it anytime of the day, although I grew up having merienda only in the afternoon. Now Max’s Corner Bakery has come up with a new and exciting campaign in collaboration with Max’s Restaurant called “Max’s Merienda Mixes” where they offer a selection of merienda favorites. I learned they started this offering July 19th. What’s awesome is that customers can mix and match the food as preferred. And this is for only Php95! Very affordable! But the snacking fun doesn’t stop there. Diners also get the chance to travel to the USA! Merienda enthusiasts can troop to their favorite Max’s Restaurant from 2pm-6pm daily. Choose any of Max’s classic merienda dishes like Pancit Luglug (plain), Pancit Canton (small) or a petite bowl of triple-chocolate Champorado. Then pair it with a Max’s Corner Bakery products like the freshly-baked Ensaimada, topped with creamy butter, sugar and grated ...

A 24K Experience at Red Crab Alimango House Binondo

Crab Adobo sa Buko - Red Crab Alimango House Lucky Chinatown Mall

I’m a seafood lover. Despite the fact that I’m supposed to have them in moderation because of gout, I would end up ignoring the warning whenever seafood is served on the dining table. This happens every time I’m at Red Crab Seafood Club. Last week it happened again when I was at the Red Crab Alimango House at the Lucky Chinatown Mall. The restaurant is offering 24 ways of enjoying crabs and I was there for the experience. Can you blame me for simply ignoring the doctor’s order? It was my first time to visit Lucky Chinatown Mall. I’m not familiar with the place. Good thing there’s free shuttle service from the New Port Mall Resorts World Manila going to Binondo. It was one rainy evening but I was fortunate to get to the venue in time before the pouring rain created havoc in the metro causing heavy traffic. I ...
