Give a Child a Nice Smile

photo courtesy of Corbis A smile brightens up your face, making you more attractive. Smiling or to be smiled at makes you feel better even when you’re in a bad mood. Science say you’ll look younger if you smile often because you use up less muscles than when you frown. Have you thought about giving someone a nice smile? Now you can give one to a child through Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, Philippines Inc. (NCFPI). Join the Miles for Smiles 2011 – Run for Cleft Care race on September 18, 2011 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig at 5AM. NCFPI is a non-profit organization whose goal is to establish craniofacial centers that provide world-clas services to Filipinos, especially the indigents. The event is being presented in cooperation with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines and The Smile Train. This is to help raise public awareness that ...

Chef For a Moment at MIHCA

I enjoy cooking which I learned from my mom who is a good cook herself. She would ask me to cut ingredients — first were onions, garlic and tomatoes, then I graduated to meat and vegetables. When I was grown enough to handle the kitchen heat, I was tasked to fry and then eventually cooked soupy dishes. So when the invite came from a culinary school, I grabbed the chance. It was one great experience to be a chef for a moment. The Magsaysay Center for Hospitality & Culinary Arts (MIHCA) held its media event dubbed “Restropective: The MIHCA Open House“, last July 29th at the their Makati facility. There I met fellow bloggers, members of the media and the academe. The institution is located at the 5th floor of Waltermart Mall in Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City. This was the 2nd branch, the other located in Manila. At a glance, ...

Experienced Love In Mang Inasal’s Media and Bloggers’ Night

I Love Mang Inasal

It was an enjoyable night at the T.E.A.T.R.I.N.O. in Greenhills’ Promenade for the very first Mang Inasal Media and Bloggers’ Night on the first day of August. It was the launching of the leading quick-service restaurant’s newest campaign dubbed “I <3 Mang Inasal” — a look back into the reasons why we Filipinos have fallen in love with this brand, and a look forward to the bigger things to come. I was fortunate to receive an invite along with bloggers friends where we were treated to delicious food, drinks and great music intertwined with fun games and raffles. But the event was more than that. It was also to announce more reasons to love Mang Inasal: The Mang Aawit Project, the Grand Gadget Giveaway and the 400th store opening at the Vmall Carpark in Greenhills on August 5. The Mang Aawit Project is an advocacy to original Pilipino music. Acknowledging ...

Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0 Advocates Social Media for Social Good

With Filipinos once again acknowledged as among the most active social media users — via FaceBook, Twitter, Multiply, Tumblr, Flickr, YouTube, etc. — Filipino bloggers are challenged to explore the potential of social media as a transformative force in Philippine society.  “Social media as an agent for change” will be the theme of Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0, happening on Friday, 05 August 2011, at the TriNoma Activity Center in Quezon City. Leading the discussion will be prominent social media activists Usec. Manuel (Manolo) L. Quezon III and Ms. Gang Badoy, who will share their thoughts on these two basic questions: How can we harness the power of social media for the social good?  Can bloggers become positive change agents through social networking? Both Usec. Quezon and Ms. Badoy will be the main speakers during the Blogger’s BIO (By Invitation Only) programme, scheduled from 7:00 to 10:00 pm as the culminating activity of Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0 on Friday, 05 ...

Free Coffee!

Watching TV, my cousin mentioned “free coffee” referring to a McDonald’s commercial. I doubted it and thought the fastfood chain must be referring to free coffee refill that some branches are offering in the morning. Then I saw an Ad about on my blog, generated by NuffnangPH. I love it! Don’t you? Don’t forget to like their page on Facebook. Tweet

Monsters Invaded Eastwood City

I attended an event at Eastwood City Friday night, July 1st. After the event, I took a stroll at the Eastwood Mall Open Area. This tech hub has been my workplace for 3 years and has transformed beautifully. I took some photos and noticed a group of people gathering around watching a group of mascots performing. I went my way and took a stroll further, ignoring whatever they’re doing. I was surprised to learn that it was actually a flash monster mob! A friend shared what really happened that night. The mascots I saw were apparently pain monsters representing body pain, headache, toothache and dysmenorrhea. They threatened to inflict pain to people in the mall, but someone or something came to the rescue – Tablet Man! Unfortunately, the 4 pain monsters proved to be more powerful than Tablet Man, putting this superhero to sleep. The monsters bragged even more pointing ...

First Class: Nuffnang and Hapee Special Screening

Nuffnang Philippines and Hapee Toothpaste have partnered for a special screening of X-Men: First Class. Happening on June 3rd at Greenbelt 3 Cinema 2, this is one chance I don’t want to miss. I had the chance to join one of Nuffnang’s special screening events last year when they sponsored The Social Network which I enjoyed very much. I’m sure this one will be on a similar experience, or even better. Nuffnang is Asia-Pacific’s first blog advertising community from which I am a part of. A brainchild of two enterprising university student, the company was established in Malaysia and Singapore in 2007. This network grew to reach the Philippines and Australia. But aside from promoting blog advertising, the company builds the blogging community through several engagement projects. This is an awesome way to encourage bloggers to continue what they do and connect with fellow bloggers in a fun environment. This ...

Inspired by Oscar’s Summit

I love to read, and what I enjoy most are short articles about career, business, food, technology, lifestyle and everything in between. Back in the days when the Internet is still unknown, I would buy magazines of all sorts, depending on what I fancy. At one point I collected computer magazines when I was so into it. I would read them anywhere I get the chance. In fact, I learned to enjoy traffic because I get to read more while inside the bus or jeep. Recently, I noticed stacks of business and food magazines scattered in my living room, dining area and bedroom. Good thing the Internet is now very accessible. I can now read articles about the latest gadgets through tech blogs and reviews. Thank goodness for all these blogs and review sites. Without access to these, I’m sure my wall is lined with stacks of different magazines. Reading ...

Rewarding Rewards

With prices of everything going up these days, I’m sure we’re all looking for ways to save and stretch our money to the last centavos. Now I realize I have to get my own SM Advantage Card to earn points. Quite frankly, I didn’t really bother to own one until only recently. I’ve had my SM Advantage Card way back in 2004, but I never got to use it. I rarely shop at SM because the items are either too common or not meeting my needs. But when the grocery store opened in our area, things changed. Still, I didn’t bother getting my Advantage card despite being asked several times by the cashier if I would want to get one. I will. Soon. Today, I got an SMS from Globe informing me that the points earned via myRewards myGlobe program in 2010 can be claimed until April 17th. I was ...

Nuffnang and PLDT myDSL Special Screening

Forget about the past and seize the opportunities of the present. And that’s what I am exactly doing with this post. I’m letting go of not being able to join the first preview offered by Nuffnang and take advantage of this one. Nuffnang, Asia-Pacific’s first blog advertising community and PLDT, the Philippine’s telecom giant partnered for a special screening of The Social Network. This is a very interesting movie that I’d love to watch. I’m sure it’ll be filled with gold nuggets of ideas on how to succeed. I will definitely need those as I aim for global domination for my laptop bag line – Tough Brat Bags. Much like facebook, I do business online 100% of the time. Being an online seller for 2 years now (Yes, we celebrated our 2nd year this October), I succeeded in my online venture because of social networking. Including facebook. I am on ...
