When typhoon Sendong hit the country in December 2011, Iligan City is one of the worst-hit province in the northeastern Mindanao. The flooding left no stone unturned and even classrooms were damaged. We all have clamored to send aide to typhoon victims. Now, here’s the chance to take action and help build classrooms via “School Run for School Rooms” — a running event spearheaded by Athletes in Action. Let’s run for the school kids of Iligan.

In partnership with FILA, the GMA Kapuso Foundation and iCare Foundation, the running event will be on July 7 at the Bonifacio Global City. This will be participated by student runners from major colleges and universities in the Metro, along with government agencies, private corporations and churches as well as running enthusiast.
At the press conference held last June 20 at the FILA Store Robinsons Galleria hosted by FILA endorser Tim Yap, we learned that over 15,000 runners have already signed up for the marathon. This is good news as it simply means the rehabilitation effort will be a success. But more is definitely better because one room cost around P500,000 to build. The target is to build at least 10 rooms.
Athletic shoe brand FILA has been helping the victims of typhoon Sendong. At the recently concluded 2012 FILA Polo Cup, Project “500 for 500″ was launched, where the company donates P500 to 500 families for every purchase of Skele-Toes — the brand’s latest line of active footwear that received a thumbs up from celebrities like Tim, Georgina Wilson and Borgy Manotoc.
The people of Iligan are taking steps to continue recovery from the disaster that badly hit them. Let’s help by joining School Run for School Room. This is a timely advocacy now that classes had started.
